Lightbulb What do you do in Sacramento?

I'm planning on moving to Sacramento from Alaska within the next six months, and I was wondering what residents do to occupy themselves when their not working? I would definitely appreciate a town that always has something going on. Also is Sacramento a popular stop for touring artists?

I loved Sacramento. I moved to Seattle and imediately was bored (can you believe it!?)

I lived in Midtown - and I biked alot. And because the weather is so wonderful there year round - there were festivals or family events or outdoor fun all the time.

Plus I went to local concerts, and River Cats games and art walks all the time.

We have ARCO arena and the downtown theaters where artists come and play (I assume your talking about music) My husband is in the music industry and his tours generally go to Reno or the bay area. Since we are on I-5, this is a good place to stop.

I love to walk and play at the river. Ride horses, ride bikes around town. 2nd sat art walk is always fun. You should go to sacbee.com and check the entertainment section, theres a calendar there so you can see some of the things going on.

There's a lot that goes on at Cal Expo, shopping's decent around downtown and outlying areas.

And if you're totally bored of Sac you're not far from San Fran or Lake Tahoe in the other direction.

I am glad Sac has something of a cultural center, but if you need more of a fix you have the Mondavi Center in Davis just west of Sac. That theatre is PACKED with events, shows, plays, musicals and what have you.

For seasonal stuff you got the world's largest corn maze hosted by Coolpatch Pumpkins near Dixon during the months prior to Halloween. Make sure to go early so you don't have to fight long lines and walk through a maze that's so trampled it's more of a bunch of criss-cross paths instead of an actual maze. But nevertheless it's a load of fun.

Spring, summer, and winter also have their own stuff going on so check with the city calender for stuff as well as the surrounding cities, like Davis, for example knowing when Spring day celebration in Davis is.

Admittedly, a lot of these things aren't IN Sac, but they're close enough that it doesn't take much effort to go do them so I would say it's stuff you can do in and around Sac. I know there's a lot more I didn't mention but Sac is pretty big so it's easy to miss or forget stuff. But hope this helps.
