Extended Stay in Sacramento
Hi:
I am from San Diego and will need to stay in Sacramento for 2 months due to work. Since the time is just a little bit too short to look at an apartment, with deposits, utilities etc., I am looking for an extended stay as close to work as possible (I'll be working downtown on the Capitol Mall).
Could anyone recommend places in the downtown area or a little outside downtown (if the public transport to downtown is reasonably reliable and won't take too long)? It does not need to be something luxurious like an executive suite or anything like that, but it should be clean and safe (i.e. like a type of hotel room with facilities for staying a little longer).
Thank you so much for your ideas.

I'd try "Extended Stay America"... They have several in the area, are reasonably priced ($50-80 a night depending on location) and have small but full kitchens with the rooms.
There is one of them at
2100 Harvard St.
Sacramento, CA 95815
That is pretty close to the light rail station which should take you downtown.

Thank you so much - I appreciate your help. I looked at them, but the locations seemed out of downtown a bit, and because I don't know the city well, I did not know whether they would be close to the light rail station.
If anyone else has any other suggestions, feel free to let me know.

Try the new Marriott Residence Inn at 15th and L Street. Full kitchen, plus you could walk to work if you wanted to and there are a bunch of places in the immediate area.

Hi Gretchen.
If you can spend a little more, there is a Residence Inn close to the intersection of Gateway Oaks and West El Camino. There is a bus line (Sacramento Regional Transit) that runs down Gateway Oaks to downtown. I think the bus will take you to 8th or 9th and K, L, and Capitol Mall. Sac RT has a good Web site and they will help you schedule your route over the phone. The Gateway Oaks area is pretty safe, especially during the daylight. There's a good Chinese restaurant, Starbucks, and a couple of fast food restaurants that would be a very short walk from the Residence Inn.
