I'm moving to the area soon and am wondering if it there are any bus lines that will take me from Davis to Downtown Sacramento area as I do not have a car. Thanks in advance

Your choices are either the Amtrak Capitol Corridor train or Yolobus.

A little late to the thread, but I'd add that if you just punch your info into google maps, it will show you various routes for various times. Kind of a nice way to see everything in one place, rather than clicking through all the individual routes on YoloBus. There are quite a few YoloBus buses that make the run and that access a few different parts of Davis. That's your cheapest option--the train is a little pricier. Train is also way more comfortable and faster, depending on where you live in Davis and where you work downtown. If you're a state employee, you can get a public transit subsidy to reduce the cost.

By the way, it's a long bike ride, but very safe and a lot of people do it. I have a co-worker who does it pretty regularly with the help of an e-assist bike, as well another co-worker who will ride into downtown in the morning and then take the train home. A decent rider can do it in a little over an hour, and a public transit commute is likely to take over 30 minutes anyway, so if you need the exercise, it's a good use of time.

The Amtrak and bus are both great options for commuting between Davis and Sacramento. Note however that they busses and train stop in the evening, so if you want to go to Sacramento for nightlife, a cab is your only good option home.

YoloBus also runs express routes which pick up in different neighborhoods of Davis (plus UCD) and drop off in Sacramento in the mornings, returning in the afternoons (but the last express buses leave Sac around 6 or 7pm). There are also reverse commute express buses which are helpful for those who live in Sacramento and work in Davis's research parks or at UC Davis (from SAC in the AM, returning in the evenings).

The regular YoloBus routes run every hour, but it takes an hr regardless of if you take Route 42 A (Davis, Woodland, SMF-the airport, Downtown) or 42B (Davis, West Sacramento, Sac Downtown) if you live near UCD or downtown Davis. If you live in North Davis then 42A is better or East Davis (42B).

Amtrak is faster, has wifi, and is popular with commuters in both directions but is a littler more expensive and comes less frequently. However, you can purchase monthly or multiple ride passes (many UCD professors do) and it works.

Also, I don't know if you are a Davis student, but UCD undergrads can ride for free on YoloBus, not just Unitrans.
