Default In search of craggy, mountain view

I am fascinated with this site and so am curious to see what this query might bring. I am posting this question on several forums. I currently live in New Mexico with a beautiful, close-up view of craggy, mountain peaks. I am feeling a sense of wanderlust, however. While I feel the desire to move I am not quick to give up a majestic, snow-peaked mountain view. Any ideas? (no --Oregon/Washington not on the plate. Been there. Done that. Want something new) Thanks.

I was born and raised in Mt.Shasta, CA. It's a beautiful mountain town in far northern CA. The town is at the base of Mt. Shasta. You can also see the Eddie Mountains and Castle Crags from anywhere in the town. Other places near there are Dunsmuir (right next to Casetle Crags), Weed, and McClound (in the shadow of Mt. Shasta). I cannot express how beautiful that area is year round.

Other Northern CA places (I don't know much about SoCal):
Lake Tahoe (if you have the money)
Burney/McArthur/Alturas (tiny towns, but beautiful)
Truckee (in the Sierra Nevada mtns. with a lot of snow)
Auburn
Placerville/Shingle Springs/Pollock Pines (all in and around the Sierra Nevada off HWY 50)
Paradise and Magalia (in the Sierra East of Chico)

Good luck. They make great vacation spots regardless if you decide to live there.

Bear Valley, Tamarack area of Eastern Calaveras County has some nice views that way including a formation called the Lion and the Elephant which I can't seem to find a picture of.

Hi Lily, et al. I live in a beautiful mountain community in El Dorado County between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. My stirrings urge me to head your way and experience New Mexico, particularly with a "craggy, mountain view." Where are the best towns in NM with such a view?

You won't find something comparable to what you're experiencing in Sacramento. On a good day, you can see the mountains (100 miles away) in the distance, from a good spot.

Try Salt Lake City. What views!

What exactly is a craggy mountain view that stirs people to find them.

Now I've seen crappy mountain views, but not craggy ones
