Hi,

I'm curious to know what is precisely the level of
gang activity (please provide pointers to sources
if any) and precisely where is it occuring. So don't just
say south Sac because that includes Lands Park
and Pocket which are nicer neighborhoods!

Oak Park is the worst area of Sac in my opinion. You can find articles on the net talking about the well known gang activity there for the last 30 yrs.

Strangely, I did not find such articles. The Sac Bee which I receive tends to not
report precise locations. For examples, the recent slaying of a Vietenamese
cop by a 16 year old never reports where it happens, except to say he belongs
to the South Sacramento county department.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Oak park is right near the U.C. Davis hospital right?

And why are you so concerned with gang activity? If you don't live in a bad area of town and do not socialize with gangs and don't interact with them, then don't worry about it. Drop the paranoia. If you want to experience the gang level in Sac, then go to Oak Park or South Sac and start screaming racial slures. Then you'll experience the level of gangs. hahahahahahahaha

Since there are about 250 active gangs in Sacramento representing many ethnic groups, the type of racial slur you scream will determine which gang you will experience.

The Black and Hispanic gangs are easy. Everyone knows those racial slurs, but the Asian gangs are a bit more difficult because many of their racial slurs are in their own language. The same applies to the Russian, Romanian and other European gangs.

The White American gangs, are difficult to insult with racial slurs because many of them are don't even realize they are being insulted. A better way to get their attention would be to burn a Dixie flag or a swastika.

Friends had an attempted gang (groups of people not just individuals)
related mugging and car-jacking recently.

I'm not paranoid, just careful, now that I have young children.

Default It's really bad in...

Oak Park (across the street from UC Davis medical center), North Highlands, Del Paso Heights and South Sacramento. There is also some trouble in mid-town and even in Old Sac, where there is occasionally violence in the evenings on weekends near the bars and clubs in the area. And no, you don't have to be screaming racial slurs to see or experience it.

Though it is true that no area is truly devoid of crime, it is also very accurate to state that some areas in Sacramento are surprisingly - even frighteningly - high in crime given the city's population.

According to the Sac Police Department's page listing FBI statistics on violent crime in the city, murder, rape, robbery and burglary are all up significantly pretty much each consecutive year over the past decade. See for yourself at:

Sacramento Police Department: City of Sacramento Annual Crime Statistics (http://www.sacpd.org/annual_stats.asp - broken link)

Yikes!

====================================

My wife and I have been chased by Mexican Gangs in Tucson and Albuquerque - we were jogging on a high school track. We weren't interacting with them and we were doing no harm. We escaped once by racing them to our car and another by racing into a school.

We had to quit Gold's Gym in Albuquerque because of the very hostile Mexicans that were members there as well.

We live in Missouri now - after living in CA 12 years and AZ 12 years. We'd like to come back to CA if they ever get this straightened out.

You don't have to be doing anything to get involved or become a victim of these thugs.
