Yes, most of California is expensive even the remote places. But we also have higher salaries than other states. I could buy a home in the Denver area for $25K less than what I can get in the Sacto area but I'll be making $10 less per hour.

We were looking at the roseville and rocklin area because of the schools there

The schools that are in the nicer area's of Roseville and Rocklin are good. My nephew graduated from Rocklin High and they had a very nice campus and sports program. However, for elementary schools Folsom can't be beat. It has the newest schools in the area so the facilities along with the new young teachers are top-notch.
There are some real crappy area's of Roseville, the old area near the rail yard will take 20 years off your life and give you cancer (no joke). There should be plenty of homes to choose from in the $1400 range you might have to go up to $1500 but it'd be worth it. With all the people in the area who bought homes to flip but then got stuck with the house when the market fell there are plenty of homes for rent.

i heard were great we have one child and 2 small dogs how hard is it to find a place to rent there for $1400?

With dogs though you might have trouble. In my experience most landlords with nicer homes don't want dogs.

are these good places to live or do i look for where else?

You might want to look at Citrus Heights because of it's proximity to McCellan-you wouldn't even have to go on the freeway. Folsom is a great community that has a large contigent of educated minorities who mostly work at Intel. The commute to McClellan would be bad though.

hows traffic from roseville to mc cellean what time to travle to miss it?

The traffic on I-80 especially between McClellan and Rocklin is a troublesome point of contention between the people who drive it and the a-hole city planners who have spent tens of millions of dollars on real estate and strip malls rather than on roadways and infrastructure. The commute can be pretty awful, the one saving grace would be that your husband wouldn't have to travel from I-80 to Business 80 where the traffic gets really ,really bad. He'd get off at Madison Ave to get to McClellan. From Rocklin to McClellan you're looking at at least 30 minutes at the worst of the morning and afternoon commutes. Before 7am and after 9am in the morning traffic is gone and before 3pm and after 7pm the traffic is gone.

im also a pre school teacher is it hard to find a job there how the pay like there?

Don't know about preschool but elementary schools are opening up yearly.

we are a mix race family asian and white is there places we should not live?

If you value your life stay away from the Sacramento City limits. Stay in the suburbs that are north and northeast of Sacto and you'll be ok. Of all the suburbs Citrus Heights will have the worst traffic and most crime. Folsom has the lowest crime. Parts of Roseville (near the rail yard) are one step above ghetto and most of Rocklin is nice. Don't look in Natomas (the homes are cheaper and big and nice but there is a lot of gang activity because of it's proximity to North Sacto), don't look in Rancho Cordova (or as we call it Rancho Cambodia) unless you rent in Gold River (but you won't find anything for $1400.

Fair Oaks would be a good place to live, really close to McClellan. Schools are old as are most homes but lot's of homes for $1400 or less.

any info help would be great!!!!!! thanks i need all the help i can get!!!!!

Let me know if you have any more ???

Roseville and Rocklin are very good areas to choose from coming from Alaska. How did you hear about these parts of the Sacramento area out of curiousity? 1400 a month for a home? That is kind of low, you wouldn't find much for 1400 in the nice areas of roseville, rocklin.

the commute from roseville to mcllelan is just a straight shot from I-80 to watt avenue which what like 10-12 miles should be about 25-30 minutes with traffic in the morning.

Hi there, I think you cannot go wrong with Roseville or Rocklin. East Roseville near the Galleria mall is getting crowded now. You will want to look at WestPark (WestPark Roseville) and Fiddyment Farm (Live the Legacy | Fiddyment Farms). Oh sorry, you said you are looking to rent. Check out Apartments for Rent and Homes for Rent, I used that when we moved from Boston. Look at area codes 95747 and 95678. I think there's one more zip code but I don't recall. As long as you put down 15-20 miles radius, you should pick them up.

You can take the back roads from Roseville to McClellan (is it the AFB?) via Elverta Road or Baseline Rd and go through some other roads.

Another option is look at renting in North Natomas where we are now. If your family is partly Asian, you might like the convenience of the Asian groceries in Sacramento which is very close to North Natomas. And from there, it's pretty close to McClellan AFB as well. Check out area codes 95835 for places to live. I recommend Apartments for Rent – Lewis Apartments, that's where we live and notice there are families there with camouflage uniform so I know they are either working at McClellan or Beale AFB. (One caution, North Natomas is considered a flood plain).

For you as a pre-school teacher, Roseville will be better overall. You can try to find a position at MerryHill School, ChildTime, KinderCare or Phoenix School. I think these are the major pre-school places.

Good Luck.
