I keeping asking this question to myself also, and with the high cost of the houses including Mello-Roos and homeowners fee's they must have a lot money.
I am trying to move out of here and over to Colorado, just got to figure a plan out first.
Regards,
Lisa

From Seattle/ Tacoma
Im coming from Bakersfield, CA but Ive only been here for 1 yr. Im trying to get out of Bakersfield (looking for a place with more to offer). I am from Seattle/ Tacoma Wa so I'm use to a much bigger city and more of a variety of things to do for my kids, night life for me and the hubby and better schools. Not sure what LA Norte looks like is that bad?

We arrived last summer from Columbus, OH.
I think a lot of the new homes going up during the 2004-2007 timeperiod were speculative and are being rented out. I think right now Sacramento is in an over built position, and this will suppress prices for a few years. I expect some pain in the shakeout, but this area continues to grow.

I moved here in 2000 from Baltimore due to a job promotion/transfer before the housing boom and bought a small 2/2 halfplex in 2001, sold that home, and then bought a 4/2 in an established neighborhood in Carmichael for less than $300K. Our home is now probably about $450K.

We are moving this month from Canton, Ohio. My spouse will be completing a medical fellowship at UC Davis medical center. We really have no reason to stay in Ohio. Bad weather most of the year, no cultural diversity whatsoever, a very sluggish economy, and serious lack of school funding. (My children only had two books in their classes this year, and no bus transportation, and we live in a nice suburb!) Not to mention high malpractice insurance premiums for physicians. We are very excited about the move, and may choose to stay here permanently!
