Default Best Sac areas to live?

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help! I'm considering relocating from the Bay Area to Sacramento. The company I'd be working for would be located right around Watt and Hwy 50. We are a couple, no kids, early 30's, who mainly want accessible shops and restaurants, safe places to walk around (even at night), and a shortish commute to my job. We're looking to rent an apartment. Can anyone suggest good neighborhoods? Also, I would love a big apt. complex with a pool, fitness center, etc, but I've heard that a lot of those can be overrun with the druggie crowd each weekend. Is this true? Thanks so much for your help!

Do you want to rent an apartment like a yuppie new complex - or would you rather be in the kitchy area and rent like a converted craftsman? HOw much do you have to spend?

Honestly, we'd be equally happy with the yuppie place or the kitchy area. We're hoping to rent a nice 2-bd for $1300 or less. Thanks for your help!

Folsom. There are some nice looking apts at Iron Point and Broadstone Pkwy that are very close to the freeway on ramp. It'd be about 8 miles to Watt Ave, unfortunately all in traffic during commute times. There are also some nice apts on E. Natoma between Blue Ravine and the Empire Ranch Golf Course. The Parkway Apts look nice too http://www.theparkway.com/. They back up to a green belt and have walking/biking paths nearby.

Fair Oaks, some areas of Citrus Heights, and Carmichael might be worth checking into. The commute would be better than Folsom. If you don't mind the commute and can afford to live in Folsom it would be my first choice.

The commute from Folsom would still be better than commuting in the Bay area...
