Other than that I roam freely without problems so far.

I think what Im trying to say is for such a dramatic number I haven't really noticed any change nor heard people I know anecdotally say anything about things getting worse from their perception. Seems like the same as usual as far as I can tell.
Most midtown crime (both property and violent) occurs at night. It stands to reason you would not notice it, because you and your family are likely asleep.

As an old skate rat who lived there I can tell you that midtown feels very, very sketchy at night. All sorts of lowlifes come into the neighborhood looking for trouble.

I live in Midtown, and I'm out and about a lot at night. Maybe that makes me a lowlife? It's not nearly as bad as Wizzy makes it out to be, and the article he linked was from four years ago--a tragedy, to be sure, but a rarity. Violent crime in Midtown gets a ton of attention because it is so out of the ordinary.

There's a reason for that. Back in the mid-200s, Sacramento did away with its Program-Oriented/Community-Oriented Policing program(s) due to lack of funding and manpower. In terms of number of officers per 1,000 residents it has little over half the number of the California cities average. Clearly, basketball is a higher priority.
