Question Brentwood, Discovery Bay ??

Has anyone checked out Brentwood or Discovery Bay that is about 20 or more miles west of Stockton? I have a family member that is looking to relocate.

How are the neighborhoods?
Schools?
Good for families?
Crime?

What other towns in would you compare it too?

We would appreciate your opinions!

Default Both Have their +/-

I have lived in Discovery Bay for several years. Both Discovery Bay (in the new Discovery Bay West Developments) and Brentwood have been hit pretty hard by foreclosures, so there are some great bargains on houses right now...and no I am not a realtor :-)

Discovery Bay overall is a great place to live. Although its grown quite a bit, it still feels small and it still has some of the feel of the resort town it was originally designed to be. If you like to boat, there isnt a better place--what could be better than having your own dock steps from your house and cruising the delta on the weekend. In my opinion, there is very little crime and the schools are OK--not great--not terrible.

If you arent familiar with DB at all, you should know that there are distinct neighborhoods/housing types. There are those houses with deep water docks (most expensive), those on the original lake (you have a small dock and can have a non-power boat), the golf course (golf and lake houses cost about the same), and the new developments in discovery bay west--a string of mostly gated communities that have some nice family-friendly features.

Now the downsides... it is a small town. There is a grocery store, a couple of restaurants, doctor, dentist, eye doctor, athletic club, churches, and a few other stores, but mostly you have to drive somewhere else (10-15 miles) to get anything else. There is almost no place to work--you need to either work at home or be ready for a commute. I personally love the feel of being a little bit out it the middle of nowhere and the slower pace to life!

It is good for active families--there are parks, moms clubs, scouts, etc. Mostly, its a pretty quiet place with nice people.
