I have two job opportunities at the moment. One in West Sacramento and another in Manteca. The latter is a lot better for my career so I'm preferring that one, but I'm worried that there isn't any nice homes around. My future roommate and I are looking for a small house rental, something rural/country, small town, in the mountains, or just in a nice neighborhood. Away from the city though. Does any place like that exist? I'm from Colorado, skier type, so access to the places like Kirkwood or Tahoe would be great too.

For the Manteca job, I agree with the Ripon suggestion along with Oakdale. You may even want to consider Galt/Hearld which would be between Manteca & West Sac, and put you closer to the sierras.
