Default Would you pick the I-80 foothill suburbs or the US 50 foothill suburbs?

Hi:

I know the area quite well, having lived there before. There is a possibility I might be working downtown. Now, if I am faced with a purchase of my dwelling, I am wondering whether to stay slong the I-80 corridor and look from Rocklin all the way up to Auburn or stay along the US 50 corridor and look at stuff around Cameron Park.

I would probably drive to the station at "the split" and take light rail if along 80 or drive to the station in Rancho C. if along 50 and pick up light rail there.

I wll not live closer in. I do not care for much of the area west of Sunrise Boulevard. It just doesn't do anything for me.

Please, I'd like your feedback as to which highway, and therefore which county (Placer or ElDorado), you would pick if you were going to purchase.

I personally prefer the 80/Placer side... Not the largest fan of Rocklin, but Loomis, Newcastle, Penryn, all the way up to Auburn I think are really great.

Of course, this doesn't take your daily commute into account.

I'd do the 80 too

I've been taking a closer look at Auburn lately

50 is a much better commute than 80. I'd do the 50 Corridor, hands down.

80 but the commute is really bad. I dont really like new developments that much.

I would much rather live along American River Dr/ Fair Oaks Bl btwn Howe and Carmichael or in Arden Oaks(where I used to live off of Eastern and Arden)

See, I don't like that area at all. It reminds me of central Kansas. I went to grad school in the Midwest, from CA, no less...I want to forget about the Midwest completely, let alone come home to a pancake flat neighborhood with streets organized in a grid.

So far, 3 for 80 and 1 for 50.

My entire life was on high and steep hills up to 1700 ft above the bay...living somewhere flat was a novelty for me..LOL

The 80 commute is absolutely horrendous compared to the 50. I see cars backed up miles just to get onto the 80 onramp from 50 during my drive to and from work.

Question Hmmm???! Very TOUGH decision :-0

I too love the 80 corridor, but that is because I know it the better than EDH/Hwy 50. I would personally look for the BEST housing deals without the HUGE $$$ Mello Roos/HOA's fees etc. and I would steer clear of any subs that were built in the last couple of years that are going to be ghost towns due to the rising rate of foreclosures and drug houses.

Also, take into mind where you will work if this position falls through or ends. That may ultimately help you to decide where to buy :-) Better yet, RENT for a few years ! Best wishes in your new position!
