Most people prefer Midtown for the nightlife and walkability but $350k won't really cut it there. You can be close by the med center and off broadway. Possibly Roseville...

Try North Oak Park or Tahoe Park. A lot of young professionals priced out of Midtown are moving there.

You can also check out The Mill at Broadway, a new development south of downtown geared toward young professionals. They don't have yards, though:

Young professionals have always been part of this neighborhood: Garden of the Gods, bordered by Eastern Ave and Arden Way, Eastern Ave and Cottage Way, Cottage Way and Mission Ave, Mission Ave and Arden Way, Sacramento addresses and a Sac zip code, but not technically in the City limits of Sacramento. Google calls it "Arden Oaks Vista" but "real" Sacramentans have never called it that. When you cross Mission Ave you are in Carmichael.

Nearby "Arden Oaks Vista" two other neighborhoods named by Google, but nobody uses these names, are "Walnut Glen" and "Mission Acres" very nice neighborhoods, Old Sac Money, Sacramento addresses, but not in the City limits. "Wilhagen" is old money as well and yes Sacramentans use the name "Wilhagen" as the neighborhood two Governors lived in, The Duke, the Armenian from LA, and Wilson from San Diego, both Southern Californians had homes in Wilhagen while living in Sacramento.

In fact, we probably will never have a NorCal governor in our life times, Jerry is both a NorCal and SoCal guy. , Arnold, another past Southern Californian was from LA, and lived in a hotel in downtown Sacramento when he was governor.

Dunno about that, Gavin Newsom is the current front runner and he was born in San Francisco. Arnold stayed in the hotel downtown sometimes but mostly flew back home to southern California.

I agree with Wburg. A lot of your ability to run for Governor is based upon your ability to raise money to get elected. While Los Angeles has a much bigger population than the Bay Area, the Bay Area seems to punch above its weight in fund raising because so many people made a lot of money during the tech boom(s). Also the Burton /Willie Brown Machine is still active and centered in San Francisco and it still has the ability to get their people elected. The various unions tend to draw candidates from Southern California, so Southern California will be important, but Southern California hasn't eclipsed the Bay Area.

The more interesting question is will someone from the greater Sacramento area ever get elected Governor during our life time. The Tsakopoulos family seems to be willing to back anyone who is a member of their Church, hence Phil Angelides has made some noise about state wide offices and I think Darrel Steinberg still has an outside chance.

I don't think Darrell Steinberg goes to the same church as the Tsakopoulos family, but both of them are decent guys. I thought Angelides was mostly doing real estate development these days, kind of out of the political game? (Except to the extent that real estate development is tied up with regional/local politics.) John Chiang is kind of the "dark horse" candidate in this election, but it would be kind of cool to have a governor who wasn't a white guy for the first time since California was part of Mexico.

Check out North Oak Park, north of Broadway. It's up and coming and not far from midtown. There's a young scene there. If 350k is your price range it's still doable, but act fast.

Too much dirty bay money in CA politics.

Thd will if the people can only be put im check for so long.

Socal asians and Latinos will eventually dominate CA politics, as the milquetoast crowd continues to become less relevant.
