How Bad is North Highlands?
So far, I can afford zipcodes 95660, and 95842. The crime stats did not look all that bad. Though I did find some news stories that looked bad and people seem to not like it on this board. I'd like to hear frome someone who lives there, Im mostly worried about violent crime and we have no kids so schools are not an issue. Any other zips I should look at?

What is your budget?
You couldn't get me to live in Horth Highlands ifyou paid me.
I rather rent somewhere nicer

I just saw you are looking for a house around 100K
If that is your budget you really should consider renting

Well I could go a bit higher and/or do a condo. The crime stats look better in 95660, and 95842 than the san fernando valley for instance 91304 where my parents live, their house is worth like 500k-600k (in bubble prices LOL) but still what's so bad about NH? I read the other threads but seems it's just a bunch of "you couldn't pay me" yadda yadda. Im not worried about the schools. So, is it shootings every day there? On the crime tracker I could not find a single murder. I know there are some from news stories, what gives?

It's just a really run down area - tons of tiny old homes that no one ever kept up - tons of brown tall grass, and excuse the stereotype, but cars up on blocks.

Well im not exactly a Granite Bay type. But if it's just run down I can live with that. If im gonna get harrassed by gang members walking my dog, maybe not.

Try looking in Orangevale (I don't know the zipcode). I believe it's safer than N Highlands.

I live in North Highlands, and I disagree that Orangevale is safer. There are areas of North Highlands to avoid, just like anywhere else. Stay away from the A St area, Polk and Jackson Streets also.
You'll be hard pressed to find a house for 100k, even in NH. It would probably be totally trashed. I suggest renting, also, until you can afford something else. My home in NH is nothing special and needs some work (new carpets, eg), but it's still worth over 200k.

I would avoid N. Highlands. You're going to have a much more difficult time when it comes to selling your house. It is not a desirable area.
