Does anyone know how safe the light rail is these days? I'm commuting from South Sac towards midtown for work. Parking in midtown is atrocious, so I was considering light rail. Anyone know if light rail is safe?

I don't travel on light rail and hope you find the answers you are looking for. My family and another gentleman were hit by light rail a few years back. The light rail conductor ran a light and we were lucky to have only lost the front ends of our cars.

I know that RT is stepping up security measures on board its trains and at the stations. The agency is installing 2,000 security cameras and hiring more transit agents to crack down on fare evaders and loiterers. I personally have not used light rail in five years but there seems to be an effort lately to enhance security, particularly with the opening of Golden 1 Arena downtown.

It is touch and go during non-commute hours, but you should be fine during commute hours. Especially in the early morning, when the street people and the delinquent youths have yet to arise.
