Hello. We recently moved from Texas and got approved for Medi-cal. So I’m trying to find a pediatrician who is vaccine friendly and accepts Medi-cal plans. My friend recommended this doctor with Sutter but it turned out that he doesn’t accept new patients with Medi-cal unless their siblings are already patients there. TIA.

Not sure what you mean by vaccine friendly--to get an exemption waiver? We have a State senator that keeps passing stricter and stricter vaccination laws, so I don't know how easy that is anymore.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere near enough doctors available that take Medi-Cal in proportion to the number of people that are on it--mostly due to the extremely low reimbursement rates. You may need to just find a doctor that will accept you as a patient to begin with.

I hope you're not saying you're an anti-vaxxer. If so, you moved to the wrong state. Poster cb73 is correct. You will be lucky to find any doctor that takes Medi-Cal.

I’m delaying them until he’s old enough to go to school and get mandatory ones. But thank you for the input on finding doctors. I guess I have to start calling around!

With medi-cal in Sacramento you have to sign up for a managed care HMO, the two that I am aware of is Anthem and Healthnet, there may be others but I don't know what they are. Anthem tends to be better about specialist referrals than Healthnet. Many pediatricians accept medi-cal patients, you just need to figure out which plan you are enrolled in, create an account on their website and look for pediatricians accepting new patients.

I strongly suggest that you get the vaccinations for your child when they are recommended, not when they start school. If you don't you will not be able to put your child in daycare or preschool. Shots Required for Child Care/Preschool | ShotsForSchool.org

Please keep your kids locked in your house so they don't infect any of your neighbors (or catch anything from any neighbors who are also vaccine-challenged).
