Hi all,
Will be relocating to Folsom in the next couple of months with my family (wife, 7-year-old, and 5-year-old) from the East Coast. Would love some general tips about the area, but specifically looking for a list of utilities/cable/water service that I will need to set up in a new house once we complete a purchase. Are there preferred providers for each of these services? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to Folsom! Utilities/water are pretty straightforward since we are serviced only by SMUD (electric), PG&E (for gas only, luckily we don't have to deal with their much higher electric costs), and the city of Folsom handles water/sewer/trash. I use Xfinity of internet and have been pleased with the service and price thus far...although I know ATT may also be an option for the area? I also have a five and seven year old and the school are a big reason why we chose to move to Folsom. We also fell in the love with the trail system, water access, and overall great atmosphere. Let me know if you have any other questions about our wonderful town!

Look up Folsom Chat on Facebook...it's very active and you'll get more information than you ever wanted NorCalUte already covered utilities. We've had both Comcast and ATT, I think Comcast has had less issues but maybe we just had a buggy router or something before. Keep in mind when house hunting that anything built around the 90's or later will probably have HOA and/or mello roos fees. I'm not sure if those are a thing back East. The lots will also be smaller...some people don't mind but we really wanted a bigger yard. There are tons of parks and bike trails, as well as places for water activities. Plus places to visit if you go up 50 like Apple Hill, Sly Park Lake, and tons of trails (watch out for poison oak!). Effie Yew Nature Center is also a cool place to take kids, they have easy trails by the river and educational talks with some of their rehabbed wildlife

Don't forget to purchase earthquake insurance, and especially flood insurance.

Thank you all - great advice. If I can ask one more: Any recommendations for best restaurants? Best Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Diner, etc. Truly going into this cold and looking for any and all tips from Folsom insiders. Thank you in advance!
