I am planning a trip from Lodi to San Francisco next week using San Joaquin's regional transit and I need to know how safe Stockton is because I will be walking northbound on Sutter Street off of Weber Avenue, and then keep going north until I hit Fremont Square, and then travel through the park and hit E Fremont Street and N San Joaquin Street, go north on N San Joaquin until Park Street, then go west on Park until N Madison, and then from there go north (Madison turns into Pacific) all the way up to Shima Parking Lot to catch a bus back to Lodi.

I'm fine with walking almost 5 miles, I just want to make sure the area I will be traveling through will be safe. And it will be during the late evening around 6:30pm to 7pm.

Please describe the area in detail, thanks!

P.S Sorry for targeting Sacramentans, I couldn't find a San Joaquin/Stockton forum, and I didn't think putting this in "California" would get accurate answers.

Generally not a safe area in the evening. Once the county workers leave at 5pm the area is a dead zone. Even worse after dark.

There are certain areas of Stockton that are ok, even at night. Pacific Ave and generally the whole Miracle Mile area has enough commercial activity and patrons that it isn't bad.

Where you are talking about in DT Stockton is not great. It is generally abandoned at that time save for homeless and other unsavory characters. I would Uber or use some other method rather than walking in that area unless you are close to the Stockton Arena or Ballpark.

I usually travel to Stockton at least once a month and know the area fairly well.

Have you ever heard of Uber? Walking five miles after dark in Stockton to save money is not worth it.
