Turlock is home to California State University Stanislaus... it's a magnet for academically oriented

Monte Vista crossings provides a good mix of retail and there are two top rated hotels in their market segment... Holiday Inn Express and a Marriott.

I just moved from Turlock to Dallas, and I would strongly discourage anyone from moving there. I was born and raised there but it has gotten really bad there. Crime, crime, and more crime...so much gang violence. Stockton which is less than an hour away has been ranked the 2 out of the last 5 years with the highest crime rate in the U.S. Stanislaus County was also named meth capital of the world. A few years ago Turlock had a string of about 20 home invasions that were so bad I can't even say the stuff that they did to these poor people on this forum, and it took forever for them to get caught. Remember the Laci Peterson story? Only 15 minutes away in Modesto. When I left, 6 monthes ago, a Turlock school teacher and a Turlock police officer had just gotten busted for sexually abusing an underage teen. This teacher was a respected teacher and football coach at Pitman High. I can go on forever. There is alot of drugs, gangs, violence, racial tension, bad air quality.....and also the epicenter of foreclosures and bad economy right now.....things are bad....I got out and I really like it in Dallas, I'll miss my hometown of course, but much higher quality if life over here.... If you have any questions I'd be more and happy to help....

I think just about everywhere is so-so. I lived in Merced County for 50+ of my 60 years, and most of the time I felt it was very nice. My kids went to school there, and I was pleased with the quality of their educations. The Central Valley has four seasons, rainy/windy/cold/nice (also known as spring), hot (AKA known as summer), foggy (AKA fall) and cold and foggy (AKA winter). Every ten years (or so) it snows (a little) and it is a huge occaision. I hope your experiences there are really great.
