Hello, considering a move to Elk Grove from SF Bay area so that I can finally buy a place and also stop worrying about schools - single mom with son due to start Kindergarten in the fall. I'd considered Davis, but the prices are sooo much higher and I like the diversity of Elk Grove. I should be able to work out of Sacramento, so hoping this will work. Any insight on Elk Grove schools would be great - what are odds of getting school assigned to your home, esp if transfer in after all registration etc already completed? Also. my son is extremely smart/possible ADHD - if you have/know kids like this, have they done well in Elk Grove?

Any downsides or regrets from folks who've made the move to Elk Grove? Any advice? I had lived in Oakland for many years, but priced out of that market even rentwise for anything reasonable - we are now in Concord. I could manage buying a home or condo out here, but the schools are awful, very little oppty to transfer, also not crazy about the vibe here.

Mo

I dont have any kids but i was a long time elk grove resident. My belief that some of the best schools in the egusd are in the south elk grove area. I heard toby johnson and franklin high are some of the best schools in the district. Also, there is another high school and middle school one mile east on white lock. (Their names are slipping my mind)

Housing and property taxes are going to be a little bit higher than the average price point in elk grove but that area is one of the nicest areas in elk grove. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
