Default Is retiring to Suisun City a good idea?

We have kids in the Bay area and are looking for a retirement home. Suisun City has been suggested so I'm looking for some current info. I understand the downtown area is very "cute" and is on the water attracting tourism (or attempting to). What about living conditions? Home prices and availability (we're looking in the low $200/k)? Safety (gangs, etc.)? We've heard it's windy, but is that now-and-then or constant? Part time job opportunities? ANYthing else that would come into play for new retirees. Thanks for any help you can give!

The other city we're considering is Auburn so any firsthand knowledge of that town would also be appreciated!

Suisun City does get windy or breezy on the majority of afternoons through the long summer months. Sometimes the wind can blow for days. The reason is that the Carquinez Strait is the only tidewater opening to the Central Valley. The Central Valley heats up daily and all the hot air rises. This creates a thermal trough. This causes much cooler marine air to rush through the Golden Gate and into the Valley. The area you are considering acts like a wind tunnel and many of the trees there actually grow a little sideways because of the wind.

It will be "refreshing" at least! And generally not as hot each day as locations farther away from the Delta.

If you want to feel safe in your home and be able to afford a comfortable retirement....leave the state!
