Default Pro and Cons on Vacaville

I am relocating to that area in the spring. Is it a good place to raise a family?
How are the schools and crime? I was looking in the 95687 zip code...
It is more affordable than Fairfield why is that. Thank you.

I don't know much about Vacaville. I have friends who live there. They say the schools are better north of Interstate 80. Vacaville has grown very fast. Part of the sprawl that may eventually have the Bay Area and Sacramento becoming one giant San-Sac. It's a handy location because you can work in the Capital or Bay Area.

I haven't heard anything bad about the place. Looks like a large bedroom community in the 100,000 size bracket. Good recreation with Berryessa and Clear Lake not too far away.

BARichards is on a distinguished road
I lived in Vacaville for 6 years when I moved to California in 2000. The schools are Ok but the schools in Travis Unified are better. Traffic can be a headache along I-80 within the city limits, heading East or West, depending on the time of day. I remember commuting to Vallejo between 2000 and 2002 was not very bad. But now? Yuck! Even driving through Fairfield on the weekend is suprisingly bad. Chalk all this up to growth.

Vacaville is not considered to be a high crime area. In fact, it used to be one of the safest areas in California. Overall, it is better than Fairfield. But who knows how long that will last with all the growth and sprawl.

A big plus for Vacaville is the shopping and its central location.

I don't think there is a big difference in housing affordability between Fairfield and Vacaville anymore. It may be a little higher in Fairfield because people prefer its relative proximity to the Bay Area.

Vacaville seems to be a nice place to live. WAY better than Faifield. Schools seem decent. Some crime. Expensive housing, just like every other city in California.
