I noticed a couple of listings within my price range in Roseville in the area around Cirby and Main between the county fairgrounds and White Park. I read somewhere that that area is kinda ghetto, but how ghetto can even the slums of Roseville be? No kids -- don't care about schools except for impact on value -- but we don't want to live on crack street. I'm hoping to hear if it's worth my time to check out the area.
Also: should I bother checking out neighborhoods west of I-80 north of Sacramento and South of Roseville? I've got the impression that all those areas are lousy, but I don't know much about them For comparison, we're not looking in Del Paso Heights, or most of South Sac, but it's not like I want to live in El Do Heights even if I could afford to. |

There is some gang activity in Roseville around that area, but it's not like a true inner city ghetto. We're not talking about Compton, but the gangs are known to stir up trouble from time to time... mainly high school hoodlums. It's lousy for Roseville's standards, but still above North Highlands or South Sac.

Crack Street no, but Methedrine Terrace is a distinct possibility.

After my Honda Civic was stolen I had enough. Figured why pay so much more to live in Roseville when I can live in North Highlands for a lot less and get the same treatment. Been here in NH for 6 months and I LOVE IT HERE! North Highlands is great! I have wonderful neighbors! My yard is five times larger then my house with beautiful trees all over. It's a lot quieter and even the traffic is better. My car hasn't been touched yet! (KNOCK-KNOCK). Oops. left my garage door opened the other night. Nothing missing. Do I miss Roseville. Hell no i don't. It has grown so much in the past 15 years. And most of that just in the past 10 years and the charm it once had is all but gone. Royer Park is rosevilles prettiest and oldest park. Also the home to many of the area's homless. They hang around at the public library near there too. Old Town Roseville has the same problem. Roseville is oh so over rated I think. And North Highlands is way underrated. Watt Ave is ugly and poorly developed. I do admit that. But it was nice I hear back in the 50's. And there is one or two apartment complexes that could be cleaned up a bit about a half mile from where I live. But for the money I save on housing living here, it's worth it! |

I'm convinced -- one trip through and I decided not for me. Not flagrant crack ghetto, just a little too run down. And with serious ghetto potential.

Pretty much what I figured... It's a shame it's so mismanaged down there... they could have a really nice downtown area in Roseville if they tried.

You're right, I don't know why they don't do a better job fixing up that area, it really has a lot of potential and is in a very convenient location.

Roseville city council are money-grubbers who never said "no" to a developer and are hell-bent on turning Roseville into the next Sacramento. I've lived in Roseville for 26 years. Maybe I'm a little bitter, but if you have lived here a long time too, you know what I'm talking about.
They turn their back on the old and focus on what is sparkly and shiney-new. Old Roseville used to be safe lower-middle-class family-oriented neighborhoods. Not any more. I realize that a certain amount of progress is inevitable, but it has been like an unchecked cancer in this area. |
