Default what is stockton like?

I am a recent 23 yr. old female college grad from the Midwest, who will take a job with General Mills in Lodi. I'm thinking of commuting from Stockton. How long a drive is that with rush hour? What is Stockton like? I've heard it has some very rough areas. What is the nightlife like? Are there many young people there? I've heard it has a very diverse population. Would love some honest opinions. Do you think it would be better to live more towards Sacramento? Thanks!

Default Stockton?

I am familiar with Stockton, but reading what you describe (and I have a 22 year old daughter), I would suggest instead Elk Grove and commute. Or, Galt would be OK also.

This is just personal opinion.

Wink Stockton area

As with most cities Stockton has both good and bad areas. They actually have some really nice areas. However, with that said, if what you are looking for is night life and things to do I would recommend living in Elk Grove. This would put you close to Sacramento which has a great night life and plenty to keep you busy. Good luck with the new job and the house hunting.

Stay away from Stockton. Elk Grove would be your best part. Stockton is the most (in my opinion anyway) dilapitated city in all of California. The whole city is almost all run down, it's dirty, the people are unfriendly, and overall leaves a rotten taste in your mouth.

Good luck in Lodi - it's all farm country. Lots and lots of cows.

Default How's Stockton?

There's many nice areas in Stockton, but they cost $.

And I'm always looking at resale value, if you're buying. Even though Elk Grove is oversaturated with homes, it still would be a more sought after location than Stockton.

But every town has it's own set of issues. It's good you are researching.

Hi DMenscha,

I guess putting my website would be considered advertising so I'll stop, but nothing in my posts has any advertising in it - I'm not soliciting business. Also, how did you get Real Estate Broker under your name - why would that be much different? Mine just says juniormember. This looks to be fun forums-and people are getting good (and varied) information. Thanks for the heads up!

Stockton isn't diverse. Most people there are Mexican, often illegal aliens. I don't know who told you it's diverse. I've lived there and it was always just Mexicans driving down the streets. Needless to say I got out of there fast.
