Default Opinion of N Foothill Farms?

Can anyone tell me about the N Foothill Farms area? Safe? Shops? General neighborhood feel?

Default Foothill farms

I live in Foothill Farms & where I live.....it's pretty quiet. I live off of Amber Lane & Date St. I've been there a year & have never had any problems. Where do you mean by North Foothill Farms? The part where I live is called "Old Foothill Farms" according to the signs. I heard the area near Hillsdale Blvd is pretty ghetto. This would be the area that borders North Highlands. I live in a condo & never had any major problems, neighbors are relatively quiet.

Do you have any specific streets you can list? The area around Hillsdale and Walerga is pretty rough.

The best way to figure out where you would be comfortable is to drive through on a Friday and Saturday night. There are some great areas of Foothill Farms with large homes that have been taken care of.

Foothill farms historically had been a place where people working at McClellan Air Force Based lived. When the AFB was closed in the early 90's the neighborhood took a turn for the worse. During the housing boom, parts of the neighborhood came back and as you get closer to Antelope the neighborhood improves.

I wouldn't call it ghetto, but it is a blue collar neighborhood. At Hillsdale and Walegra, there are a lot of condos that were built out in the late 60's early 70's and that area is becoming more hispanic. But you still find a fair amount of students who move to the area because its cheap and fairly close to ARC, the local community college.

In the single family homes you have a mixture of retired military families and a fair amount of Russian immigrants who tend to specialise in buying places and fixing them up. You also have enough Filipinos to support several stores catering to them but I am not sure its not to call the neighborhood filipino yet.
