Default midtown or Citrus Heights

So, after reading these forums a bit and looking online at midtowngrid and a few other places....

I've determined that I'm split between living in Citrus Heights and living in downtown Sac around L Street, right in the heart of everything?

Anyone have any suggestions? How is the crime around downtown Sac, I'm looking at 1801 L Street and it looks like a nice facility and the rooms look nice, the whole bit. However, I don't want to be spending a ton of money only to find out that it's crime ridden or what not...

Advice from locals would be GREAT! I'll be working out at the old military base that's on the east side of town....

WOW! Two WAY different areas! Now why would you live in Citrus Heights??

I am of course the large promoter of Midtown. I was a single girl in my 20s and lived there nearly 10 years. I never once felt scared. I never once had my car broken into...

I have only been gone 4 years, and although people tell me crime is higher, when I drove through it 2 weeks ago, seemed like the same ol' wonderful place it has always been.

If you want an area with tall oak trees, lush, walkable/ bikeable, and close to kitchy shops, coffee houses and restuarants...then move to Midtown

If you want a more affordable area, that used to be beaten up and nothing but rental duplexes falling apart (I hear Citrus Heights is getting better though) then move to CH.

Sounds harsh, but I guess I love where I used to live

Thanks CityGirl

I guess midtown is the way to go it seems.

From what I've gathered I want to be on L street and south right? And I want to be west of a certain street??

1801L seems like the place to be. Any other places you know of?

18th and L is a good spot

Typically anything east of 16th (some say 19th but it depends) is good

And the best letters to live in are (IMHO) C st to about P st (more south is good too but gets away from the center of Midtown)

I lived at 22nd & I, and 25th & G

Default Thanks

The company I'll be working for is going to send me out there for a few days to apartment shop && I'm just trying to make a list of places to scout out.

That has just made the list ... as has your advice on streets to live in.

I grew up in Citrus Heights and moved to Midtown shortly after college...and am still there. It has gotten gradually safer and more gentrified over the past two decades.

South of P Street is a little farther of a walk from where the action is, but Light Rail runs down R Street and makes it convenient to get downtown (it costs a buck.) There is also a growing retail/restaurant corridor evolving along S Street between 16th and 21st, in addition to the cluster of bars around 21st and P. It's also not so far of a walk that it can't be done by someone in good shape. One plus is that you have the option of living in a quiet neighborhood but being able to walk to loud things.

Which old military base on the east side of town? There are three: Mather, McClellan and the Army Signal Depot.

Yes - I agree with CityGirl. 18th and L is a prime location being in the centre of restuarants, clubs, art galleries, and overall nightlife. The heart of downtown is only a ten minute walk away.
I used to live right on L and 18th during my younger bohemian days in the mid 90s. I had a blast, knew half the neighborhood, and this was when life there was quieter with less to do.
The only drawback is that with all the gentrification in the area, housing costs have skyrocketed. If I was still 22 today, there would be no way I could afford living there now.

There is nothing wrong with Citrus Heights. It has FAR less crime than ANYWHERE downtown. I go anywhere downtown and I have people harrassing me and begging for money. Bums everywhere and freaky looking people. This is rare in C.H.
