Hi! we are a family of five, with three young boys! we are comin a long way, from MN. we are wondering what are the best areas in sac. to move with a family, or any where around sac. within a half hour or so. Also what the schools are like, our boys are all elementary age children, their father is going to attend the ITT Technical Institute, in sac. that is the reason for the move to that area. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! and thanks ahead of time for taking the time to give us any input that you might have!

What will be your budget for a home? Buying or renting?

$700-800/month is about what a studio or small 1-bedroom apartment costs in Sacramento, in moderate to not-so-great neighborhoods.

I'm also looking to move to the Sac area, and have been doing some research on apartments. I'm findling a good number of places that look nice for less than $800 for a 1 bedroom. I guess it depends what you consider a nice neighborhood??

$800 will NOT get you the space you need - my old studio apartment is $600.

For a house - even in the affordable area you need around $1500, peobably more

We are a family of four needing to rent before we buy, looking at Folsom - most 3 bedrooms are going for $1700 or $1800 per month

On a side note: Why is your husband going to ITT Tech in Sacramento? What are his long term goals? There are ITT Techs all over the country and most in cheaper states to live in than California.

And please research ITT Tech schools and what his goals are. Some places will give you a job with an ITT Tech degree - but (coming from the IT industry in Seattle) ITT Tech is just an associates degree and kind of a joke when compared to an actually IT bachelors degree from a 4 year university.

I'm just saying - it's kind of a risky move to move 3 kids for just ITT Tech. (IMHO)

CityGirl, you can get a nice 3 bedroom rental for $1600 in Folsom. There are a lot of houses for rent right now.

I did notice some for $1600 but we need space so I said "the majority" are more

I'd think with three kids they'd like a lot of space - I'm in 1200 sqft right now and we are bursting at the seams

True, they aren't huge, but you'll have more room that you have now and renting's not forever. This one's not far from me, 1600+ sq ft, 3 br plus loft, walking distance to light rail, the outlet mall, the elementary school down the street and more. $1595 per month
