Only problem with Tahoe Park is that it's on the wrong end of town: to get from Tahoe Park to Roseville you have to go west on Hwy 50 through downtown (with rush hour traffic, in all the snarls) and then up the Business Loop, and finally turn back east on Hwy 80 towards Roseville.

Take a look at the ZIP codes 95816, 95608, 95821, 95825, using the Sacramento Bee's "MetroList" service (Northern California local news and information from The Sacramento Bee - sacbee.com). You might find some places to your liking there, in the Arden/Carmichael areas. They're kind of suburban but they're pretty close to Sac State and not hard to get to I-80. They're older suburbs that are aging well, and the proximity to shopping and public trasit (bus, not light rail) to Sac State is very good (Buses 82 and 87 run directly to Sac State, until fairly late at night.)

That's true Tahoe Park can be a bit tricky - but some of it is quite nice, and more affordable then regular East Sac.

Default Moving to Roseville area

We moved from KC in '04, Redbridge and Warnall area near stateline, south of downtown. I would definately rent for 6 months just to get acclaimated before buying since your commute is an issue. House prices have dropped considerably. They are back to what they were about 5 years ago in the Roseville area. We bought in Citrus Hts as soon as our KC home closed, 3 months later. It sits just south of Roseville. Would have loved to buy in Roseville but the same home was about $20K more. The 1325sf 3/2 we bought at $317K(a good price then) after our $12K of cosmetic improvements would sell at $260K now. I work in the old town Roseville area right near city hall. It's a great little city. If you want to visit a very cool & friendly church with the average person 27, let me know. We've known the leaders for 18 years and it's the reason we came, great source of friends. The winters are a change of season but no humity, no snow, temps drop to low 40's avg and some morning frost. We love being so close to Tahoe, ocean, Yosemite.
