Roseville to BEALE AFB is about a 45 minute drive, thats a long ways to commute daily, it could take longer during heavy traffic.

the best area that isnt too far from BEALE is Yuba City, since you will only be there temporary, it isnt that bad.

your husband can get to the base pretty quick from YC , maybe 20 - 25 minutes

Yes, Grass Valley is NOT that expensive if you look hard. If your commuting from GV to Beal AFB, it is a lovely drive. There are also many beautiful little pockets in the hills from GV to Marysville, Im not sure if you like rural homelife.
I think Lincoln is nice, it's not as crowded as Roseville or Rocklin. Im glad your not moving to Marysville/Yuba area, your kids will be much better off in a healthy place.

When I was working there, we lived in Yuba City. A lot of people who work at Beale live there. It really isn't that bad, especially if you further west. It is all newer. We never encountered any of my clients there, or had anything bad go on. Met some nice people, and went to a nice church.

The way gas prices are out here (almost five a gallon), I think it is worth looking into for your family. It isn't as nice as Grassvalley, but it isn't bad. Other than that, Linclon is about a 25-30 minute drive, and that is also okay. Although, honestly, we almost got a house in Lincoln last summer, and it isn't really any better than yuba City, other than being closer to Roseville and all it has for shopping and stuff.

Okay, first off, OLIVEHURST is NOT that bad of an area. Yes we do have some scum's and people lke that but i mean, WHAT town DOESNT? Maybe you should do some research or something because how in the hell do you think people like me and my family and all these other families can afford the houses we live in? We can because we work our asses OFF! We actually have good jobs. We are not all trailer trash! Olivehurst is mainly just a "Hick" town. Alot of us are "Rednecks, Hillbilly's" or whatever you want to call us. But that doesnt matter. We are a better place then Marysville and Linda. Olivehurst has GOOD schools. We have a wonderful High School. Lindhurst High "Home Of The Blazers" yes there are "some" problems but hardley ever! Arboga Elementry Is a wonderful school. and Yuba Gardens is "okay" its not the "BEST" Junior High in the world but its a whole lot better then some other Junior High's.! Olivehurst is not a bad place and the cost of living is some what affordable. Grass Valley is a nice place to. =] have a nice day!!!!

My family and I are also moving to Beale from Florida (Feb09). Looks like were also going to look into Lincoln, Roseville, Rocklin or Grass Valley. I dont think Id mind the commute to base. Just want to raise my family some where I wont have to worry about them if I get deployed again. Any further info would be appreciated.

Ofcourse not everyone who lives in Olivehurst is a "scum". I never said that. But the WHOLE area is deeeeply troubled. I had regular cases at the high school (where, um, a school shooting went on some years back, no?), and the Jr High, and Arboga. I am sure you are very nice and very hard working...I am sad that the drug culture ruins what could be a wonderful place full of hard working salt of the earth people like you. But it is a FACT that it is not a great place to raise kids. But rual places like Olivehurst are the biggest Meth havens, actually. And with Meth comes crime, and child abuse.

I am sad everyone who lives there is not like you. But I would never tell someone asking, to move there. Nope nope, not with all the dope.

ive lived all over the area. the best safest and fun school is in wheatland which is only 5 minutes from the gate. its a small town with 6 police officers and everyone is very nice. in marysville there is a lot of drugs but its easy to not be affected. dont be friends with druggies. As far as "gangs ruling" that is bull****. i've lived their 17 years and i've never seen a gang. the "gangs" people talk about are 5 person clicks that sell some pot and they are far and few in between.

On the other hand Grass Valley has good schools, but the houses are not affordable.

Please provide us with some guidance. We just want a friendly town that has some convience to it (meaning not in the middle of no where), outdoor activites, affordable homes and good schools. I hope I am not asking for too much.
I would suggest Grass valley if you can find anything in your price range, the rest of the areas are not that desirable. We know 2 Beale AFB families (well they are kids of our friends) that choose Grass Valley because of the atmosphere and schools.

all places have their problems. i have friends in all of the surrounding cities and wheatland has the best schools.

Grass valley is nice, but far from shopping and restaurants etc besides the few it has, and the schools have a aryan problem and there was a incident where they were growing pot on the campus a few years back, so even though its really nice its going to have its problems.

Yuba city=big school with big school problems

Marysville = crappy school with drug problems

Wheatland = a very good education, everyone knows eachother and bullying is virtually non existant etc. Its small 700 students in highschool. the only problem i can think of is its small size has it offer less classes, such as spanish is the only foreign language taught
