Here is a quick ranking of the nicer to worst places to live in the Sacramento area, feel free to debate me on it:
Really Nice:
-El Dorado Hills
-Folsom
-Lincoln
-Rocklin
-Loomis
Nice:
-Roseville
-Pocket/ Greenhaven
-East Sacramento
-Davis
Average:
-College Greens
-Natomas
-Midtown
-Downtown
-Orangevale
-Fair Oaks
-Carmichael
-Elk Grove
Bad/ Some Parts are Nice:
-Rancho Cordova
-West Sacramento
-Tahoe Park/ "Med Center" Area
-Citrus Heights
Absolute Garbage:
-South Sac
-Oak Park
-Del Paso Heights/ North Highlands/ Rio Linda

20 years ago Citrus Heights would have been higher on the list but it's not very high on anyone's list of places to live anymore.
What's sad is you can also read this list as 'Really nice (white) areas' and 'Absolute garbage (minority areas)'. Now I don't think they are garbage areas because of the minority population but it's probably more of a reflection of a general economic situation, lower education, etc. Trust me, I fully believe that there are white trash people in those areas as well but just not in the same proportion.

I also forgot to put Granite Bay under really nice and Rosemont under Bad/ some parts are nice. You can take from it what you want, and yes it kind of reads in the way you describe. Rio Linda is a big white trash area that is garbage so there are exceptions. A lot of places used to be a lot nicer in Sacramento. I have even talked to a lot of older folks who tell me Oak Park was a really nice neihborhood in the 50's, It's hard for me to believe but it's probably true. Elk Grive would have been higher on the lists years ago but South Sac has been creeping into that area for a while now. When I think of a "real nice area" it also has to have a good amount of buffer between that area and a bad one. Some place in Sac you can actually get a piece of chalk and draw a line between decent areas and ****ty ones.

I've been to Sacramento multiple times and some parts of it could be compared to Stockton. The same kind of people, etc, especially in South Sac. Sacramento isn't that different than Stockton, it's like the nicer parts of Stockton.

Get outta here, come on now. What part of South Sac? It's not the nicest part of town but it is nowhere near as bad as Stockton and similar areas. In Stockton it is near impossible to get gas without being approached by someone.

Trust me, I know what you mean, Stockton is proof the country is going down the toilet, but I'm familiar with Sacramento and it isn't really all that different compared to the nicer parts of Stockton. The only difference I could think of is Sacramento has more white people than Mexicans, but that is changing.

I agree, although the sketchier parts of Stockton I think are worse than the sketchy parts of Sac. And Sac has way more nice parts than Stockton does. But otherwise the two cities are similar in a lot of ways.
Oh yeah, I think Sac smells better than Stockton too!
