"Sacramento is a scary place."
Well, I finally did it. Moved to Sac, that is. I got an apartment in the Pocket. So far, things have been pretty quiet.
However, the day before I moved a supervisor at my (now former) office said something that concerned me. He asked me where I was moving. "Sacramento," I said. "Sacramento is a scary place," he replied. "I lived there for five years."
Now, I've heard alot about the bad neighborhoods in Sac, etc. But what do you--those of you who have lived here for awhile--think? Is Sac, overall, "a scary place"?

Sacramento must be the biggest city this supervisor has ever been to... just like any decent sized city in America, some areas are good, some aren't, and the safe areas outnumber the crummy areas. Of the major cities in California, I'd find the crummy areas of Sacramento to be among the tamest.

You should maybe move back to Chico if you can't sleep at night in the big city.
The big city is not for everyone.

A lot depends on what this person meant by scary...did they specify what made it scary, specifically where they lived, etcetera?
I don't think it's scary here. Maybe it's just because I'm scary, I dunno.

It is not any more scary than Columbus, OH or Nashville, TN.
I guess if you are coming here from a small town or rural area it could be intimidating, but that is about it.

you have a good reason to be scared of Sacramento
the crime rate is very high
lots of robbery
rapes
murders
violence
drive by shootings
gang infested
lot of crime for a small town
much worse than SAN FRANCISCO
