Default Possibly moving to Tracy from Pittsburgh, PA

I'm looking at a job in Stockton, it would be an engineering job located at a biodiesel plant being started at the Port of Stockton. I have previous biodiesel experience and it has potential to be a very good opportunity and lucrative as well. I realize Stockton is a ****hole, but if I took it my current plan would be to live in brentwood or tracy and commute to the port of Stockton where the company would be located. That way I could avoid going into stockton for the most part and my GF who will be graduating with a graduate degree in book and magazine publishing could commute to the bay area easily. I am a scooterist and would like to ride my scooter (can go 80mph) as primary transportation in the area, other than work I would avoid Stockton like the plague. Please let me know I have to look forward to, what the eastern bay area is like, ect.

Here is a map of exactly how far I would have to actually venture into Stockton:

Stockton has plenty of problems but I see more vision and effort coming from leadership in that town then most of the entire Valley put together including Sacramento.

A brand new 10,000 seat arena with a great hockey team. And they lead the ECHL in attendance for the second year in a row. A brand new minor league baseball stadium. A great downtown harbor and very successful annual Asparagus Festival.

I like Stockton. They try. And their efforts are beginning to turn it around.

There are also some very nice neighborhoods mainly west of Interstate 5.

I actually live in Tracy. It is a nice town, but like many of these areas it is one that is still trying to catch up to the enormous growth it has seen over the last 10 years. Stockton has both good and bad parts. There are a lot of newer neighborhoods on the east side of Stockton and some more between Stockton and Tracy. Lathrop is one of those cities that is currently seeing a lot of new homes being built. Those areas might also be more affordable than Tracy as Tracy has seen a huge increase in housing costs in the last 5 years. The average 3 bdr house in the nice areas will cost you at least $550-650K.

In Brentwood, The growth there has been very good and real estate values are good there too. I think you'd take highway 4 right past discovery bay and then into stockton. If your looking for a nice quiet gated community check Discovery Bay. it's 5 minutes from brentwood and 2-3 minutes from a large safeway. very nice area.

What are some other areas west of Stockton that are cheaper than Tracy but not ghetto? I'm looking for an area where my girlfriend will be able to have access to the eastern part of the bay area without too long of a commute as well.

I don't know much about the area, but KB Homes is building a brand new development in Lathrop just off I5. I think there are a lot of other builders building in that area as well.

If you are looking in Disco Bay or Brentwood I know they offer some great incentives on new homes. DR Horton is offering 100k-150k off some of their inventory. Also some good deals to be had in the re-sale market. The market might deflate some more but then again it might not, that is the gamble. Nothing to worry about if you are going to be in the house a while

I agree with kingsnkali. I currently live in Stockton and I love it. Although there are some bad areas in Stockton it is mostly (North) I don't see any gangs, ect as you have to go out of your way to get to the areas. You will automatically notice that you are in the wrong place. My Husbands job is transferring to Texas, or else I would never leave our location. If anyone is looking for a Nice home/neighborhood we have the House for you. Just renovated, pool, granite, hardwood floors, quiet small (6) house court, next to great park and school.
