Default What about Shingle Springs?

My wife and I are planning to return to the Sacramento area after 15 years in South Africa. I notice that despite the low real estate market the prices for residential property are still very high in Sacramento, and so we are looking for an area that can satisfy our needs, but still close to the city. Checking the available properties on the web I find that Shingle Springs seems to have properties we like, but the cost of living seems to be 20% higher than Carmichael, where we came from. We will be limited to 300-400K.

We need several acres with trees as we will be bringing four of our dogs home with us, and they are noisy and wild. We are retired and will not do much commuting. Can anyone tell us more about Shingle Springs/Rescue area?

I use to drive from Sacramento to a small town outside of placerville. Between Cameron park and placerville all i remember seeing is farms and small businesses. Farther away from I-50, the less noise. Between cameron park and placer, i don't really remember much traffic. Even during rush hour. When you hit the folsom area is when it becomes bad.

Default 300-400k on acreage

I'd suggest town of Cool, Garden Valley (lots of retired folks seem to like the area Garden Park - parcels are around 2-3 acres),

Also, Somerset Pleasant Valley area southeast of Placerville, Sierra Springs area in Pollock Pines.

Hi Annaboyd,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have to be below the snow line...perhaps Shingle Springs?

I have tried to look for property in Pleasant Valley, as suggested by justducky2, but would prefer the eastern part.
