AIRNow - National Air Quality Summary lists the air quality forecast for today and the next few days.

But I don't live there so I don't know how it is in general.

Redding and the surrounding areas are not that close to any large cities, so the air quality is usually good. It's very pretty in Redding during the late fall, winter and early spring.

During the dryer parts of the year, there are quite a few fires in northern CA and the smoke can back up against Redding.

The main drawback for some people is that Redding is not near a delta like Sacramento or Stockton and it tends to be pretty hot in the summer and early fall.
