Default Shingle Springs: country life and great schools?

Within reasonable commute time to downtown Sacto, is there a place for country living with great schools?
We would like to raise our kids on an acre or so and we would also like great schools in a down-to-earth kind of place. Is Shingle Springs a good option? How is that commute?

Yes, Shingle Springs is a reasonable commute (well, what is your definition? An hour is ok to me, and there is the bus or light rail to get you there...). Buckeye school district has a Shingle Springs campus where the teachers know the good kids even and it it like a little country school. Shingle Springs fits your down-to-earth description, and there is acreage.

I did the SS to Sac commute for 5 years, and it didn't bother me, although I came from SoCal and was used to commuting. If you leave not at the heaviest traffic time, it's generally 45 minutes to 1 hr depending on what part of Sac you are going to. Traffic in rain, or on Friday evenings coming home during ski season, is heavy, and expect 1.5 hours to even 2 hours on the VERY worst days - for me, I think that happened maybe once a year. There are commuter busses and light rail down in Folsom.

Some areas of Cameron Park, Rescue, and Latrobe will also meet your criteria. I take the El Dorado Transit bus now and it takes about 45 miinutes from the El Dorado Hills Park and Ride and about 55 minutes from Cameron Park. When I drive in, it takes about 20 minutes longer.

What about Loomis? It probably a lot closer than Shingle Springs and the schools should be pretty good out there. You might also want to look out near Sloughhouse or Wilton. Again, much closer to downtown and if gas prices go back to 5 dollars a gallon soon (and I think they will) you might prefer some place a lot closer to downtown.

Shingle Springs, Rescue, Latrobe, these are all nice rolling areas of the county. El Dorado county government is very hard to get along with. If you plan on doing any improvements to your property be prepared to pay dearly, and wriggle through much red tape.
