want to be greener in the foothills
Hi-I moved to Placerville from NYC in July. I love it here and love my house. I want to go solar and greener. Anyone have any recommendations of people/firms that could help, could give me an energy saving consult and install solar or windmills, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great evening

Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it and will check it out. BTW-what is KVMR? Sorry to be under-informed... This whole thing is a learning journey for this former city-dweller.... Just put in a wood stove and blower. Thanks again for responding.

Welcome to Placerville, and glad you love it here! I don't have recommendations for you (I save on cooling in the summer as I live under a LOT of old oak trees! Solar won't work for me), but do call the El Dorado County Planning Dept if you are outside of city limits, or Placerville Planning dept if you are inside city limits, to find out what is allowed or not, before you really get going. They'll answer basic questions over the phone for you.
Good luck and good for you for going green!

Be prepared to pay through the nose for permits and many other hoops you will have to jump through in this county. My guess is, cost - vs -gain/energy savings will not amatorize out for you. Going green on a large scale is more of a political catch phrase right now. Certainly there are things we can all do on a personal level, just don't think the county/city will jump right in and help out. The want only to gouge you for your $$.

Thank you Wburg, Justducky2 and Lew_B for responding. I appreciate it. I didn't realize I would have to involve the local govt in going solar.... I guess that was naive of me. I already do what I can on a personal level to be greener (I don't use my electric clothes dryer or dishwasher anymore; I carry own bags to the market, etc but I had hoped to do more.... Anyway, very happy holidays to you and wishes for a bright and beautiful new year.
