Where is this place?
I want to live somewhere where it's at least semi easy for me to get a job with a BA and fluent Spanish (years experience in HR, teaching ESL, coordinating etc), where I will sweat for at least a few months out of the year, where I can get around well with just a bike or the bus, where men are men (oh i had to), where people are happy and hospitable and where there are swimming holes that I can get to without driving.
ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE TO THIS IN YOUR AREA?
Thank you!!

There really isn't anyplace where it is semi-easy to get a job right now. Sacramento's central city is about the closest thing to a place where you can get by without a car, and even that has its challenges. It is also among the most expensive parts of the city to live, although if you're not feeding a car habit it's easier to do. In terms of swimming holes, the closest place is probably Discovery Park along the American River, and a few public pools in the central city. You'll sweat in the summer, but it's pretty bearable with the trees and proximity to the river, if you like hot climates you'll love it.
As to the "men are men" part, that's something you'll probably have to find out for yourself.

Sacramento is very close to what you'd like except the getting a job easily - Sac has a very high unemployment rate

jobs are almost impossible to come by in California, anywhere right now, but the fact you speak spanish will help.

You'll definitely sweat for a few months in the Coachella Valley and there are lots of pools - they're everywhere. Jobs may be a little hard to come by ... and the men??? Well, not all the men are really men!
