Default Best place for young professionals?

I'm trying to help my brother out... He moved to Sacramento this past week to work there for a government agency in Downtown Sac from our hometown of San Francisco. He didn't have a lot of time to relocate (he lived in a hotel there his first week) and scrambled to find housing. He's kind of lazy when it comes to researching things, so he picked the first available place he found, which was a 1 bedroom apartment in Del Paso Heights (at least I think that's what the neighborhood is called, it's a place of Marysville Blvd).

I drove over today to help him set up his apartment, and well, it didn't seem like a very nice area to me... not something that would seem to be fun for a recent college grad just starting to work full time. He's on a month to month lease so he could move any time starting next month. I think some criteria would be: lots of recent college grads, decent nightlife, food places/stuff to do within walking distance, a nice place to meet people, etc. Any suggestions?

YUCK! Del Paso Heights can be a real pit of a place!!

He works downtown? Then live there. Tell him to move to Midtown, he can walk or ride a bike to work, and he'll be around the more artsy neighborhood and coffee shops galore...

TONS of places to live, tell him to check out Craigslist

yeah, DPH is a neighborhood with some issues. Seconding Midtown, or really any place in the central city grid. I'd say find out where his office is and start walking around that neighborhood: a lot of downtown offices are very close to residential neighborhoods, he could easily walk to work. And if he's used to getting around on foot, he can live pretty much anywhere on the grid and walk to dinner/entertainment/stuff to do. It's also the only part of the city where public transit is decent. The toughest part is parking (most apartments don't come with parking) but if he lives and works downtown he probably won't need a car.
