Some websites you can try for apartments in Midtown are:

Sacramento Realtor - Whisler Land Company - Real Estate in Sacramento, Elk Grove, Carmichael, Folsom, Fair Oaks, Roseville, Orangevale, West Sacramento, Davis - Mark Whisler - Realtor

Berger Properties

or craigslist is actually good too.

Hope that helps............

I rent in midtown.

In midtown proper (around Fremont park)
there are some newer complexes (Fremont Building,
Fremont Mews) built this century.
A 1000 sq ft 2br will set you back $1500+. Parking
is additional.

Around the downtown area (5th and J) you'll get
30 year old complexes. Governors terrace, Governors
mansion etc. that cost $1200 for a 1000 sq ft 2 Br.
Some even have nice swimming pools which you don't
get in the midtown apartments.

Try forrent.com there are lots of vacancies now so you
can bargain hard. If you sign a six month lease you'll
get half a month of free rent a 12 month one free month
of rent.

You'll be going pretty much against traffic if you commute from Midtown to Davis. I did the reverse commute for quite awhile, and even going that direction it wasn't bad at all. Friday nights either direction can be tough if a lot of people are going to Tahoe or the Bay Area for the weekend, but the other 9 times a week are usually a breeze.
