Renting in Midtown?
Older gay male here, probably would like to live somewhere in or near Midtown if/when I get to Sacramento... but am wondering if there are rentals available. I did a search on the larger apartment rental web sites, but there was never much in Midtown. Is that because there are no rentals, or because they're the smaller independent places without advertising budgets to get into the big glossy For Rent-type magazines (and their associated websites)?
Also, how would the commute be out to UC-Davis? That's one place I'm considering applying to. Would the drive out there be considered "against traffic", or are there a significant number of commuters from Sacramento to Davis?
(I'll be there in late June and check all this out myself when I get there - I just thought I'd ask in advance. Thanks for taking the time to read and/or respond.)

I would check craigslist.org for rentals. Or housingmaps.com which uses craigslist as a source.

Any local publications? I'd like to find something a bit more reputable than craigslist.

I would just try sacbee.com. They have their classifieds section. They have lots of little bungalows down there in midtown. And I am trying to remember the area but there is a little section down kinda like a mini-Castro section. Hopefully you can find what you are looking for in the paper. I had a friend that lived down there ages ago and I wish I could remember the specific area. Definately south of Capital around R?
The cottages are little 1920's cute bungalow apartments. Hope that helps!

It's called Lavendar Heights and it's centered around 20th & K street.

The clubs on the corner that center Lavendar Heights are The Depot, Faces and Headhunters. There are plenty more in the area. Also look at volunteering at The Crocker Art Museum. The 2nd Saturday festivities are about as urban hopping as Sacramento gets; straight or gay.

When I visit in June, I'll be staying just a few blocks away from that intersection. Should Sacramento be my choice, I want to get involved in volunteering with the gay/lesbian community center, among other things.
Right now, it's down to Albuquerque, Reno and Sacramento.
