Default Commute from Sacramento to Modesto

I am looking at a job in Modesto but my boyfriend will be working in Sacramento. I know that the drive from Sacramento is about 80 miles but I was just wondering if traffic is a total nightmare or if the drive would really take about 90 minutes....

Sacramento to Modesto for work would be against the traffic flow, so it shouldn't be too bad.

If you can find a place you find mutually acceptable in the Galt, Elk Grove or Lodi area you would both have commutes of under an hour, assuming your boyfriend works in the downtown Sac area.

Yes, it would really take about 90 minutes, traffic or no traffic, just because the cities are very far apart. I posted in another thread about the Amtrak "San Joaquin" train if you want an alternative to spending 15+ hours a week behind the wheel of a car, but here is the schedule again:

Of course, if you're going to use this option, it helps if you live close to the Amtrak station, or the "Gold Line" light rail line (which goes straight to the Amtrak station.)

How long were you planning on working this far apart? Is this a temporary thing or were you planning on doing this indefinitely?

If this is short term, you can probably endure it for a couple of months. If this is the long term plan, then I would look at seperate places and see each other on the weekends, or I just wouldn't make this move at all. Do both of you have such unique skills that neither of you can't find employment closer than 80 miles apart?

Its not just traffic in Sacramento that you will be dealing with, but traffic going through Stockton and Manteca. Traffic is really bad in those locations because you have people living in the valley cities and commuting into the bay area.
