Prop 8 wut
Although I totally agree that California is a lot more tolerant than most other places in the US, it seems that the Northeast is a bit more progressive in this area :-P
...and back to the OP; as most everyone said, MidTown Sac is your best bet.

Default Lesbian couple moving to Sac/Davis

The Greenhaven area has a varied setting from same sex couples to multi-racial couples. In my apartment complex their are several same sex couples and I have never witnessed or heard about any problems. My children attend school with kids from same sex homes and again no problems.

Red face couple from chi-town

Hi there - I live near the area that bibikerchic lives in. Have rented a house for almost 5 years now. It has a lot of quirks, and that's why I have a deal @ $850. The biggest problem is no central a/c and heat. But, again, it's a rental, and it has a large yard and cool neighbors. Where I live, it's true, one street away seems to be a problem street; but my street is nice and quiet for the most part except for one neighbor. I think that can be said about a lot of areas in America these days.
I would agree to the statement to be careful on craigslist. I used it once to find a roommate and well, let's just say, it turned into a situation where I had wished I had used a property management company (as suggested). I wanted to add that I have many gay friends and enjoy hanging out in the many gay-friendly establishments in downtown Sac (very nearby where I live). I feel you could definitely find a place in this area for 1300.00 where you could have dogs. Also, you may want to check out West Sac - which is very close to Davis and Downtown Sac both. Good luck! (P.S. I grew up in Waukegan!)

It should also be noted there is a gay friendly church in this neighborhood, Parkside Community, part of the United Church of Christ, the denomination to which the Obamas belonged before the Rev. Wright issue, something you as Chicagoans are obviously familiar with.
