I used to live in Sacramento and I hated all of the complaining about how a couple of billionares needed hundeds of millions of public money for a sports team.

Since we don't publicly subsidize movie theaters, amusement parks, or casinos with quarter-billion dollar facilites, I personally don't think that the cost is worth what you get.

I now live in Seattle (grew up here, actually) and we have this arguement about every ten years. First the Sonics (Key arena), then the Mariners (Safeco Field), then the Seahawks (Qwest Field), and now they are back around again to the Sonics.

The cycle will never end until the public stops paying. Somehow the average pro athlete was able to manage on just several hundred thousand dollars a year in Mickey Mantle and Wilt Chamberlain's day (even when you adjust for inflation). Anyone read about how it was a big deal that Babe Ruth (the best player of his day, and possibly the best ever) made more than the president? Now the average player not only makes more than the president, they make twice as much as Babe Ruth when you adjust for inflation. Is the average player today twice as good as Ruth? I don't think so, and I also don't remember there being "stadium controversies" in the 1930s.

The Kings need to stay, Sacramento is too large of a market to not have a pro sports franchise. It gives the city an identity, we are always overshadowed by the bay area, and that needs to stop, we need to be our own city, not a suburb of san francisco.

Also, the poll is worded wierd.

Default Kings Leave

I have been a Kings fan since J. Williams was the point. We get very poor coverage in the local news rag and even worse on TV.
I have watched every game I possibly could since then until this week. I got up and left the room to read.
THE EXCITEMENT IS GONE!!
The only players I enjoy are Corliss and Kevin. (My opinion) If Bibby would concentrate on assists or at least pay attention to Steve Nash's game it might help. Check Bibby's shooting percentage against Martin's! I would hate to see the Kings leave the area unless they went somewhere with better TV coverage.

Unhappy Sorry about the wording, I goofed

I meant to word it "yes, why they stay" and "no, they should go". I'll try to get an administrator to straighten it out.

I totally agree with you Dave. Im not in the area any longer, but Sacramento deserves something that as big a draw as the Kings. It deserves a pro franchise.

I voted "I don't care" but I should qualify that with: "I sure don't want to pay for it."

Let's put that money into improving teacher wages.

They won't bring out baseball...that is why they have the River Cats. If you haven't gone to a game, it is a nice evening out and the stadium is pretty cool. Every seat feels really really close. They do a lot to support the community as well.

The Sacramento Kings have the longest sellout streak in the NBA. Same attendance every game for years on end....17,317.

Half the NBA teams would want to move here if the Kings left town.

This current team is a low budget excuse. I don't like much about them. It all started with the trade for Artest. Huge mistake in my opinion. I just wish they would start from scratch and build with kids. Throw in some foreign players too. I don't like this new "tough defense" Detroit-lite Kings stuff. I want run and gun like the old days. Light up the scoreboard.

I agree we need to get back to our old run and gun style. I think this offseason there will be many changes, artest, bibby, and musselman could all be gone. Maybe we will get a good draft pick.

However, I dont think many teams would want to move here if the kings left. Without an arena, no team would ever move here.
