Default Renting in Sacramento

Hello,

I'm interested in renting an apartment in Sacramento. Here's my "situation":

1) I gross $36k/year.

2) My credit score is 601.

3) I've never broken a lease, I don't have any evictions, and I have a history of paying my rent on time - if not early.

Do I have a shot at moving into a decent place, or will I have to limit my search to 2nd chance landlords? Also, would it help if I explained my credit situation to them?

If any of you have had any experience renting in Sacramento with a profile similar to mine, I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

This depends on where or how much you want to rent

You should be fine

Post an ad on craigslist looking for a rental without mentioning credit. Everybody is hurting right now and many landlord just want someone who breaths.

Your FICO score is of less concern to a landloard than your renting history. They run you on a separate system so you should be just fine. With no evictions and no late payments, the rest won't really matter to them. I wouldn't offer any information that isn't asked for.
