So whats this dude think of Placerville ?..I'M AFRAID TO ASK. There is another apples to oranges post ..Where should I live ..Sac or portland..Live where you can be happy and get a job.
We have friends moving out and it has been tough for them to decide where to live. They are picking btw. Davis and Placerville. They asked me for an opinion but I am not offering one cause...well, cause of many reasons.
I wanted to get a 3rd opinion.
They like the country feel of Placerville and cost of living compared with Davis but the school are better in Davis but housing is thru the roof. I didn't think the schools were that bad in Placerville. They said Davis had this feeling of being uppity.
Just wanted to hear what you had to say....I told them I would get another opinion.
TIA!
Placerville, hands down. And yes, Davis is very uppity. No guarantee you'll get a quality education, probably just a miserable kid because of the "superior" peers they are surrounded with...not really great family values in any event.

Thats really just silly. Davis has decent schools. Last year the high school was in the top 10% of all high schools regarding test scores. The middle school in the top 20%. Davis really is not that uppity. You might get some pretentious college kids and such, but there are much much more uppity places in the sac area.
Placerville is also a pretty long commute to all the higher paying job centers in the area.
Davis has the best public schools in the region, but the schools in Placerville are quite respectable. To me the issue is the commute. I would rather commute from Davis to downtown than from Placerville. But if I was working in Folsom or El Dorado Hills, the charm of Placerville might make me commute from Placerville to either of those locations, but I wouldn't want to commute from Davis to Folsom or El Dorado Hills.
Not silly; I went to school in Davis for several years. I don't know how you'd quantify the elementary school education but even the kids were arrogant there. I visited a Davis elder center for a community project several months ago and I could not believe how rude the staff was...we were made to feel unwelcome from the time we stepped in the door.
I also ran into one of my elementary school teachers in a Dr's office and she was telling me how she'd never want to teach in Davis again. She actually had kids threatening to sue her if she put them in time outs. Snots!
Did you attend grammar school in Davis or college? I was always under the impression that schools were awesome there, regardless of how much your parents make or what car your family drives. In fact, we're hoping to move there just for our child's education.

In response to the post asking me directly to compare more..My daughter went to poly prep in brooklyn ny for 8 years..while i cant compare the education..Let's just say i am pleasently surprised by eldorado high school in placerville..It is pretty good so far..needs a bit more gentrification..You cannot compare the quality of life in placerville to brooklyn or davis..even though we placervillians have had our share of the press lately..feel free to contact me directly..

You're trying to change the fact that El Dorado County is primarily conservative? Did it ever occur to you that the reason it has the things you like, such as neighborliness, outdoor recreation, scenic places and education is because it is so conservative?
You're typical of people that move from to this area because their neighborhood has gone to crap, and then attempt to change this area to be more like the one you left. You WILL be made to feel unwelcome if you have that attitude.
ringwise, is there a problem that there are some people who aren't conservatives up here? And that politics might change? I meant it in a sassy way, not in a destroying way "Yes, El Dorado County is majority conservative Republican (although some of us are trying to change that" ...there are lots of closet liberals up here, they are just not involved in community politics. And if you want to label...you are talking to someone who watched her hometown in SoCal grow from a sleepy ag town of 30,000 to about 160,000 now, with all the ag wiped out. My neighborhood didn't go to crap, as you put it; in fact, it is a very expensive place to live. But I never thought that those people should go away because they were changing MY place; it's just what happens....if you want to stereotype me, whatever.
Your scenic places are likely to change given certain Supervisors and their developer friends who are heck-bent on bringing in many subdivisions and big box stores...might I mention that they are mainly, hmmm.....conservative in their politics? I'm not involved, but a group of people are trying to maintain the sense of place and habitat that is going to be destroyed....you can see RECALL JACK SWEENEY if you are curious. Have you seen the "Dirty 19" map of what Diamond Springs will look like/be destroyed like? Just so you know.

My place belongs to us all. It's a shame in this day and age we still bicker about race ,position and even demographics. we are all so lucky to be alive.
After seeing "milk" last night ..and I'm not even gay... you quickly remember people like briggs and anita bryant and why they were so wrong .
Please people can't we get along.
Hmm. My son attended public schools in Davis from 7-12 grade, and I didn't detect any snobbishness among any of his friends. None of his friends had new cars given to them when they graduated, or constantly bought ultra-fancy gadgets. Some lived in rental houses, some lived in apartments, some lived in fancy SFH...there are all sorts of kids here, and they all got along great. Maybe the grownups notice that stuff more than the kids do.
As far as the schools themselves, my son and most of his friends got into great colleges, most were offered at least 50% scholarships, and they are all sophomores now and doing great in college because their high school (Da Vinci, the new tech high school) prepared them so well. I can't say enough good things about Da Vinci high here.
