And they're even lying about that. The weather is miserable from about May to October, with relentless heat. From about mid January to April it rains cats and dogs, usually, albeit this year has been dry, but that's only due to an unhealthy drought, it's nothing to celebrate. The seasonal changes are nice here. I have to be honest, I really like the fall in Sac. Once it starts cooling down, the color of the sky, real nice. Spring's cool too. You can just smell it in late March, and you can pretty much drive anywhere in the city and there'll be no shortage of eye candy.

Are we still Tree Capital of the US? I guess that's unique.
I think only Paris, France has more trees than us, which makes us second in the world, actually. Yeh, we've got trees.... We'll move farther down that list as trees will inevitably be bulldozed for development.

We must live in completely different cities.

The tree capitol of the US is an urban myth. There has been no census of trees in the region, so no one knows how many trees are in the region. Its also unlikely to be true. Regions like Detroit and Seattle are built on areas reclaimed from forests. Those areas naturally support more trees and are going to have much denser forests in greenfield areas. Abandoned and underutilized properties in these areas are also much more likely to revert back to the forest. In this area, a lot of the trees indigionous to our area relied upon seasonal flooding to sow their seeds. But that has been severely limited by our system of damns and levies.

I assume that people who get neck tattoos in other area codes do basically the same thing, just with different numbers?

Okay, I guess they do...

now people can claim that it's just another trend we stole from the Bay Area.

Really? From what I remember (and everything I've read recently) it only tends to be really hot in July and August - June and September are not nearly as bad on average, in fact, those months are pretty similar to the Bay Area in July/August - and the spring and fall months are quite nice/warm. And even then, only a few weeks total out of the summer are thought to be miserably hot in the middle of the day.

I guess if you don't enjoy a warmer climate, you might not like it too much. But having grown up in the south part of the Bay Area, we had some pretty hot summers too, and I don't remember being miserable. But the average temps in the peak summer months around Sacramento are only about 5-6 degrees warmer from what I grew up with, so I suppose that's why I'm not all that concerned.

Ignore this guy, hes just the village idiot.

All the claims that Sacramento is unbearably hot are pretty much bull**** and this guy knows it. Sacramento whether is better than 90% of the country. In fact I was at willies last night and I overheard a group of guys (who I think just moved here based on their conversation) and they were talking about how great the weather is here.

I'll take the 90 degree sunny weather over a monsoon climate, tornados, thunderstorms, and high humidity that happens across much of the southwest, midwest, the south, and the east. Sac weather is nice. Sure there are days when it gets to 105, 110, but I don't think our heat is comparable to say, Phoenix or Vegas.

+1

I moved here 2 years ago from one of the cooler parts of the Bay Area (Peninsula), and getting acclimated to the heat was one of my initial concerns. It turned out to be a non-issue. I suppose if you are, say, shoveling dirt out in the sun during the summertime, then yeah, it sucks. But if, like me, your daily routine primarily involves being inside an air-conditioned office most of the day, it's no big deal. I do a bit of cycling and running, but I schedule them for morning or evenings. (Speaking of which, I really enjoy being able to go out in tshirts and shorts in the warm evenings.)
