If you love the outdoors as entertainment...you will not be disappointed! You have canoeing/flatwater kayaking right in Folsom at Lake Natoma; Folsom Lake for wakeboarding/skiing/hiking; Folsom itself has WONDERFUL bicycle trails; whitewater rafting on the South Fork American River; lots of hiking in the nearby Eldorado National Forest, in the Sierras, with plenty of high-altitude lakes, meadows, waterfalls and streams; and of course, Lake Tahoe. Skiing is available at Sierra-at-Tahoe if you want a quickie, not far up the mountain; or go into Tahoe proper and you have Heavenly, Squaw Valley, Northstar, and many more ski resorts.
I came from Southern California, and I find it to be a high quality of life area...I would never leave!
