At times it is hard to know if you are driving in Roseville or Rocklin. They tend to run together in certain areas that have been built up in the last decade.

If one town appeals the other town probably will as well, but then I am not looking for schools.

Currently we're visiting the area. We found that Rocklin and Roseville are pretty green (comparing to Folsom/EDH) and nice towns. Also, there are a much more properties for sale in Rocklin than for example in Granite bay.
The problem with Roseville that except small part of the town that in boundries of Granite Bay High school, other High schools are pretty bad.
P.S> The good thing about Roseville - they have the only skating rink in the area (see my nick name lol)

Rocklin has its merits, the problem you might want to check out is the commute from Rocklin to Folsom in the morning. Generally if traffic is bad, usually there is a side street to route around the problem. But 80, 65 and the American River all act as barriers that concentrate traffic into narrow corridors to cross these obstacles.

For that reason, I probably would avoid most of Rocklin if I could. If after dealing with traffic, you might want to consider Gold River which is a community West of Folsom between Sunrise and Hazel Avenue along the American River. The schools are excellent there and the commute to Folsom is fairly direct.

Yes, we were thinking about commuting.... generally (without traffic) it's 30 min, when we will be close to buying house , we have to check commute time in ruch hours.
P.S. As per ed-data.org schools in Rocklin are better than in Gold River/Fair Oaks.

Little late here but just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Have lived in rocklin 21 years and it really is nice and even more to answer your question. Went to Rocklin HS which was excellent, sierra college was right there, and I generally feel very safe anywhere I go anytime of day. Like others said it is comparable to roseville, and granite bay as being most similar as far as the sac area is concerned. happy hunting.

That's really not too bad of a commute. You wouldn't be taking the freeway at all. You'd be driving on the outskirts of roseville and through granite bay to get there, which is not stop and go by any means. Google map rocklin road, barton road, douglas blvd, auburn-folsom blvd, those are the main ways to commute to folsom, and it is pleasant drive. Most of it is oak trees and open land besides the business parks through douglas. Hope that helps you.

well at least the folsom dam road/new bridge is open now. That helps a little. It truly was an absolute nightmare coming into Folsom over the rainbow bridge (2 lanes!) a couple months ago-or you could go over the other bridge and stop for 3 minutes at greenback, 2 minutes at Glenn, 4 minutes at blue ravine, wait for the lightrail to pass... and all this after the 14 lights you have to sit through on Douglas, before the new bridge. Sierra College Boulevard and Roseville Parkway aren't too bad now that they have been worked on. But no matter how you spin it- (yes, it is a pretty drive!) (yes, it is a "do-able" commute) (yes, on paper it's "not that far")- the reality is that driving north and south from US50 to I80 is not fun in El dorado, Placer, OR Sacramento county because there is no N/S bound freeway. So if you like constantly sitting at stoplights you will love it. Auburn-Folsom does provide a brief break in the stoplights between Roseville/Rocklin and Folsom. There is also a windy canyon road if you are traveling between the two freeways between Auburn and Placerville. Nice Sunday drive!

Rob98LSi is right about Barton road- it is a less direct, but much more pleasant route. Rocklin/Rsvl are not so different from Folsom that I would want to live in one to commute to the other. I am sick of the drive after commuting it for 6 months.
