Default Relocating to Sac - Natomas vs. Arden-Arcade?

Hi,
I will be moving to Sacramento in June. I've been trying to figure out in what areas I should look for apartments. Basically I'm looking for:
1. Safe
2. <$1000/mo
3. On the newer side (I live in LA now and everything is old)
4. Not a ridiculous distance from UC-Davis Medical Center
I've heard good things about Natomas or Arden, except something about possibility of flooding (??) in Natomas. Would appreciate any other suggestions, or opinions on those regions...thanks!

If you want something new north natomas would defenitely be better over arden-arcade. Other new suburban areas would be roseville, rocklin, folsom, and el dorado hills.

I'd go with North Natomas. I live there, and I haven't heard much about flooding. I guess it could happen. Look for apartments with 95835 zipcode on rent.com or forrent.com. You want North Natomas, anything north of Highway 80. South of Highway 80 is not desirable or safe.

By the way, one posting said Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom.... Those are far away from the med center, and it would be a huge headache driving in that traffic.

Good luck.

Do you have kids? If you don't then there are other great areas by UC Med Center (just not good schools)

I always highly reccomend Midtown, East Sac or Land Park

All very close by

I would say definitely North Natomas as well. As for the flooding, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It does have the possibility because that area is pretty much surrounded by levies, but they have been remaining fairly dry. Last incident I can recall was back in the 80's...

It all just depends what you're looking for.

I like the antelope area myself. Might want to check that out too. The commute wouldn't be too bad at all. Elkhorn Blvd takes you straight to the Natomas area. I had an apt there I rented for 850 2 bed 1 bath washer, dryer, and fireplace. Really nice area. If your looking to buy, prices are pretty good right now also.
I just picked up 2 houses
One is 3 bed 2 1/2 bath and the other 3 bed 2 bath both around 1400 sq ft
rents on those are 1500-1700, so thats another option as well. Rent a house in a good area if the price works or if you don't mind roomies lol

I agree. Unless schools are a concern (in which case I have zero input), there are a lot of other places to consider. Most of the neighborhoods near the Med Centers are good, with the notable exception of Oak Park (and Oak Park near the Med Center is not bad, IMO). Elmhurst, East Sac, Curtis Park, Tahoe Park, Midtown, Land Park. To name a few.

Hi Ivette, you'd probably get a better response in a new thread. Go to the Sacramento page: http://www.city-data.com/forum/sacramento/ and click "New Thread".
