Default i will be moving in a couple of years and i need some questions answered please

I mentioned in the Nevada forum that I plan to move there but I am considering northern California also. What is the job outlook for Certified Medical Assistants? I'm also a certified nursing assistant. Something that I didn't state in my Nevada thread. Teachers (preK - 1st grade)? What about registered nursing? (I have not started nursing school but I plan to go back to school and get my associates in nursing). What's the typical pay for each? Are they in high demand?

I don't plan to leave the midwest for at least 5 yrs because I jus graduated college and need to work and save to move myself and my family. Also to give my boyfriend (and father of my children) a chance to finish school and get work experience in his field.

I have 2 and expecting 1 more. My oldest will be attending a foreign language school studying arabic. The other will be attending a creative arts elementary school. Both outstanding schools. Are there any like those in northern California? If not do u reccomend any other good elementary schools?

I want to find a northern city or neighborhood that is good to raise a family in. Fairly affordable compared to the salary of the jobs that I asked about. Within distance of parks, libraries, schools, rec centers, etc. Although I have a car I desire to stay in a community that is on or very close to a busline. I want to have another option of getting around other than an overpriced taxi if my car were to breakdown.

I plan to only rent for the time being. A nice 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment, townhome, condo or house. What will renting each run me in the neighborhood that u suggest?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

I don't know enough about certified medical assistants to say, but the overall job market locally is in the tank. Unemployment is 11.7% in the Sacramento region and unemployment is even higher in the areas of Northern California outside Sacramento.

Ideally five years from now things will have improved, but the time to make inquiries is then.

Hi, I want to put a word in for Sacramento Metro area. It fits all the needs you've listed. As for economy re renting - the price for a 3 bdx2ba varies by district, but $1300 - $1600 gets you in a decent neighborhood. To buy, if you have the money, now is the time to pick up a great deal, as the housing market tanked last year. It will change, it always does. I especially like Orangevale, it's more rural for my tastes, good community center centrally located, parks & recreational district has lots of kids & adults activities year round. I don't have little kids anymore, but my friends seem satisfied with the schools.
By all means, do get your RN license asap. There are excellent medical facilities, the university, VA, Kaiser pays very well, all state of the art levels of care here. UC Davis cancer treatment center is unbeatable in all levels of care. There is a serious need for male nurses.
Weather is mostly very nice. We have a bit of winter - no snow, but summers can be very hot for a few wks a yr, just learn to deal with opening the house in late hrs of afternoons and early mornings, closing it up during the hot hours. Do your research and avoid the flood planes, even though we don't have a lot of rain we do have flooding from time to time. My friends tell me Elk Grove always gets the Delta Breeze in the afternoons, which in those hot summer days, can be a life saver.
Yes, there are the problems that all big city metro areas have, but so much depends upon parenting and controlling your kids activities and friends. There is a large diversity of cultural groups, I like to think of our neighborhood as a Little United Nations. Here, we respect and support each other. We have beautiful yards a nice clubhouse, block parties, a progressive Christmas party every year, support Neighborhood Watch. We make the effort to be friendly and it works. Politics are about 50 - 50.
Other areas I especially like here are: Roseville, Folsom, No. Natomas, and Citrus Heights.
There is absolutly no reason to ever be bored here. Every activity and interest you can dream up is available. Skiing is less than 2 hrs away - fabuous powder snow, a dream to ski. Boating in your backyard. Biking, hiking, restaurants, The Strauss Festival is not to be missed, and it's free. Fairs, racing, riding, picnics, Old Town, shopping. Good luck to you.

Medical jobs here are pretty strong from what I have heard, I'm pretty sure you could find work here as a medical assistant.. its not the type of job that is dependent on the economy in the same way that other industries are although it may be cut back a bit when the economy is bad.

Speaking as an RN there are typically lots of openings for medical assisstants. The market has slowed for nursing in general but its one of those fields where you can always find a job.So you will always find a job but it not be your ideal one like it was a few years ago.

Since the California deficit and job situation will not get any better for awhile..................IMO, I would move to Nevada. Probably Carson City would be my pick. Lower taxes and jobs close by in Reno. Not to mention the proximity to Tahoe and all of its mountainy goodness!

I have a feeling that California will have to rob more and more from the rich and middle class to pay for their social programs and early retirees.
